Meanwhile,
I frequently forget to grab the umbrella to take with me on days that the forecast calls for rain. Invariably, I get rained on. On the days that I actually remember the umbrella, not a drop falls from the sky (or the rain clears up as soon as I step foot outside). It would seem that my having an umbrella handy is a guarantee of no rain, since that way I get to look like a knob carrying an umbrella around for no reason. Like that woman I’ve seen a couple of times now, who wears a hockey helmet while riding the bus. Okay, fine, she doesn’t look like a knob, she looks like someone who is overly cautious but probably has never suffered a head injury. Or maybe she has and doesn’t want to repeat the process.

Anyhow, yesterday I dutifully hauled my umbrella around with me, figuring I wouldn’t need it. But I did.

And I thought, huzzah! The umbrella reverse curse has ended!

I was wrong. Today, I hauled around the umbrella, with no rain. Then, I forgot it when we headed out to Plattsburgh for dinner (Desert Moon! Dee-diddly-icious!), and it poured on us. Like some great divine force was sitting on the clouds and pouring buckets of water down on the earth.

I guess things are back to normal now. Fear not for the world as we know it, it’s still here, and alive and kicking.
