Today I leveled up to level 10. I unlocked the Zyborg, and surprise surprise, it’s another blue zombie that I cannot plant.

But an interesting thing happened when I hit level 10. The game played me a little animation. First, it acknowledged that I seem to be enjoying the game, which is true. It then went on to implore that I purchase that Blue Headstone to continue enjoying the game. It reminded me that the game had been provided for free, and that this purchase would be a little nod of encouragement to the game’s developers. It then went on to tell me that purchasing the Blue Headstone would not only allow me to grow blue zombies, but it would also later unlock the Red Headstone for purchase with a brain, which would in turn allow me to grow red zombies at higher levels. All this fun could be mine for one measly US dollar.

Now, I’ve been thinking about this. They’re right, it’s just a dollar, and there are no ads in the game, so it’s really the only bit of revenue I’d be sending the developers’ way, and part of me feels that I should support them since I’m enjoying the fruits of their efforts.

Then again, another part of me is feeling rather blackmailed by this – it looks like the game is forcing me to buy the Blue Headstone in order to continue progressing, when the initial offering was a free game. It’s not truly a free game, it’s free until you hit a certain point, after which you must pay in order to proceed. And then keep paying.

But they only want a dollar.

But a free game should be a free game.

I still don’t know if I’m going to be parting with that dollar or not.

So then you try every other day, or some other sort of schedule. Things get tricky here though, especially if you decide that some things you want everyday, and others you don’t. If you’re like me and have a hard time remembering certain trivial at the time but crucial later details, figuring out which vitamins to take which days without writing out a schedule is pretty tough. And since writing out a schedule seems a bit on the insane side of that thin chalk line, I refuse to do it. Maybe daily dosing is the way to go in the end.

On a completely unrelated note, I happened to notice a couple of quarters on a surface in my home today, flipped them over, and discovered the image of two figure skaters on one. Joy! Clearly, I have not been that diligent at keeping my dream journal. Part of this is due to a time issue – mornings where I must get up early and dash off for work leave me with, well, no time to record my dream. By the time I get home, I’ve forgotten all about my dreams and my intent to try to keep a record of them for fun’s sake.

Also, I have this distinct dread that I’m also not having the same fun dreams that I used to, so I don’t remember them as vividly since they’re just not weird enough. That trend may be changing, though….

Trying new recipes is fun. Once upon a time, I thought it would be a good idea for me to make a real effort to sift through my cookbooks – somehow I’ve accumulated a fair number – on a regular basis to find new things to try making to add to my cooking repertoire. I cheated and bought pre-made Olivieri tortellini from Costco. The end result was quite tasty, though.

Tonight I tried another new pasta dish. It wasn’t very saucy, but it still managed to be quite flavourful – mix together some soy sauce, plum sauce, and sesame oil, set aside, then stir fry some green beans and red pepper, then cook some shrimp with some garlic, ginger, black pepper and green onion. Add back the veggies, then douse in sauce, then toss in some cooked pasta – I used angel hair pasta – and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Again, quite tasty.

I wonder what I’ll have a go at next????
