I remember, some years ago, a friend of mine was telling me about this horrendous date she went on. They were taking in a movie, and all seemed fine, right up until they got to their seats in the theatre. She just looked at it for a moment, then asked, “You brought a book?” She told me that he then told her that he hadn’t wanted to be bored waiting for the movie to start!!! She was, shall we say, less than thrilled. (I’m not sure she put out that night! ^_^)
I thought of this yesterday in the theatre while waiting for my movie to start, as I watched a couple a few rows down from where I was – gotta love stadium seating, every seat gives you a view unobstructed by the head of the person in front of you. ^_^ Anyhoo, this couple was sitting there, but they weren’t talking to each other to pass the time, as one of them had brought a little handheld pocket PC type device, and was playing a little game on it – like Collapse, but not Collapse itself. I saw this, and thought of my friend’s story, but then later I saw them switch – they were taking turns playing the little brainless game while they waited for the movie to start.
I guess talking is on its way out as a way to pass the time…. Maybe text messaging will come in!
