Okay guys - as I was going through the galleries I’ve prepared already to post (cropping, resizing, optimizing, and uploading the thumbnails… it’s a surprising amount of work..), I realized that my last batch of preparation, I was in a hardcore mood!! I was looking for a gallery to pick, thinking “hard… soft… hard… soft… hard”, and realized that I didn’t have many softcore galleries left!!!! This gallery from Nubiles.net is NOT my favourite - but at the time I saw it, I thought it was neat…

Anyways, I was about to cross a street today. The ‘don’t walk’ hand began flashing, and this was one of those nifty intersections with the countdown display, and the seconds started ticking down. I looked at the number of seconds left, determined I couldn’t complete the cross in that time without sprinting, so I stayed put on the curb.

As the traffic started up when their light turned green, a taxi driver at the front of the line gave me a little wave or salute of sorts as he went by. I think he was signaling his gratitude that I was obeying the pedestrian traffic signals. ^_^

I remember when I first learned about jaywalking. I was a kidlet, and my neighbour and I were walking to school together, when suddenly she announced she was going to jaywalk, and then crossed the street in the middle of the block, while saying somewhat proudly, “Look at me, I’m jaywalking.” I think I was six or seven. ^_^ Being the little dweeblet that I was, when I got home after school that day I asked my mother what jaywalking was. She told me that it was what people are doing when they cross streets when they’re not supposed to, like away from corners and when the lights say ‘don’t walk’. I asked why people would do such a thing. She told me that people don’t want to wait for lights, or don’t want to walk all the way to the corner. I asked why we didn’t just do this all the time, since it seemed like it could potentially be efficient. She told me that we shouldn’t do it because it’s illegal. I asked if a person could be put in jail for jaywalking, because I had a strong tendency to interpret things literally when I was young, so if you did something illegal it automatically meant that you were going to go to jail. I’m pretty sure she told me that you can get a ticket for jaywalking, but she might have let me believe that the police will toss you in jail for it to remove any temptation I might have to do it.

So I never jaywalked as a kid - I was certain that if I were to attempt it, police would come screaming out of nowhere and there would be dire consequences for my transgression. And this aversion to jaywalking has stayed with me into adulthood - I still don’t do it, except in pretty rare circumstances.

Though I must say, as a driver, I appreciate people who, like me, don’t jaywalk. ^_^ Jaywalkers add a new level of peril to everyday driving…. Or a new scale of points. Whichever way you want to look at it. ^_^
