I never really gave much thought to how I feel about the cooking process, until I met someone who really doesn’t care for it. Basically, their sentiment is that food is a good thing, and good food is all the more enjoyable, but don’t show them how the food underwent the transformation from ingredients to finished product.
Me? I think I like the transformation process. I find it interesting to see that when I add something to a mixture I’ve got on the go, it changes – it may change in colour, or texture, it may make noise if I’ve got it on the stovetop, and usually there’s a change in smell. Each new thing I add causes some sort of change, and I enjoy seeing these changes – it feels like I am accomplishing something with every action.
That being said, I most certainly do not enjoy the process of cleaning up after cooking. Not in the least. You can keep that one from me, thanks!
