I read this interesting thing in the science section of the newspaper a while ago. It was about the fact that in most Asian cultures (Japan for example, where one is not expected to show ones emotions directly) people show their emotions more via their eyes and in most western cultures (where one is encouraged to show ones emotions directly, for example America) they show their emotions more via their mouths. This is reflected in their emoticons. Japanese people show the emotions of the particular emoticon via the eyes ^_^ (just like you did Kaori) and American (western) people via the mouth
(like this, for happyness, or this 
for sadness).
Dangit, the tokens which I used to explain the ‘western’ emoticons got changed into these jolly faces automatically.
