In April of this year, I marched myself into a Coach store and purchased myself a treat. A Parker handbag, in shades of pink-toned sand. I’d been coveting it for a few weeks, and so it came to pass that it was to be mine.

I have been using this handbag every single day since, and it hasn’t had a particularly sheltered life. The bag has travelled a fair bit – I took it to Paris, I took it to Las Vegas, I took it to Vancouver. On each plane trip, it was placed on the floor of the plane under the seat in front of me, as per airline instructions. This bag got wet with me when I got caught in the rain in Vancouver. It has held up fairly well to constant usage – in spite of being light-coloured, the fabric doesn’t have any obvious dirty spots, except for one little black spot on a corner, not sure what that’s from. There are no spots where the fabric is visibly wearing out. The leather handles are still in good shape – there are a few discoloured patches, I’m pretty sure this is from contact with sunscreen at some point in the summer, but other than that there are no cracks or hardened bits or other signs of leather distress.

I have never had a twinge of regret over parting with $400 to make this bag mine. When I’m out and about and I see other handbags on display, I give the squishy shoulder straps of mine a little squeeze and think smugly, I still like mine better.

When I purchased the bag, the sales clerk asked me if I’d like to be added to their mailing list, and I agreed, figuring there’d be no harm in it.

My very first mailing came. It’s a little notecard offering me 25% off my total in-store purchase December 4 – 13.

25% is pretty significant. So I took a peek at the website. It’s the first time I’ve seriously looked at handbags since buying this one.

And? I didn’t find any that I thought I might like to have. Mine is still the winner of my handbag heart. Who says I’m fickle?

I did see an interesting wallet though. Although I do still like my current wallet, which I got in May 2007 for $20 USD while on vacation in Florida, this 25% off offer may persuade me to get a new wallet. So very tempting.
