Anyways, I needed a Swedish fix
I made the trek to an Ikea store today, in search of their Komplement shoe boxes, hoping that this will help declutter my entryway. Admittedly, part of the problem was me not putting away my shoes back in their boxes if they’re not shoes I wear on a regular basis. But, with these nifty little boxes, I can now stack un-shoeboxed shoes in the closet, and these boxes have a nice plastic window at the front, so you can take a peek at the shoes in the box without having to open the box.
Yes, the entryway looks much better now. ^_^ And yes, I sorted through the shoes and re-shoeboxed the occasional wearers - hiking shoes, flip flops sandals, and so on and so forth. The ones that are in the Ikea boxes in the front closet now are the ones I typically go to for daily wear, for all seasons - my Crocs sandals, my slip on heeled Mary Janes, and my boots, though the boots aren’t in boxes as they’re too tall. ^_^
I like this windowed box solution better than a shoe rack - I looked at some of those, but they all have this silly design where the rack lets you stack one row of shoes on top of the other, but the surface you put the shoes on isn’t a solid surface - it’s a row of tubes or slats. This means that if something drops off the shoes you put on top, it’ll drop onto or into the shoes on the bottom. Yuck! Ikea had one shoe rack that didn’t have that design - the Leksvik shoe rack - but it only held eight pairs of shoes and it was way too expensive - roundabout $120, I think. The Komplement boxes, on the other hand, were $15 for a set of four. ^_^
In the grander scheme of things, I’m not sure how I feel about Ikea. The Komplement boxes weren’t my first Ikea purchase - I also have a Leksvik tall and narrow dresser. A lot of their stuff I find looks quite nice, until you actually touch it - a lot of their stuff is made with particle board, and thus feels pretty cheap and wimpy. They are, however, starting to make use of solid woods more and more - things like pine and birch. Once you get into the solid woods, though, you can no longer find a coffee table that will only set you back $50.
Well, not that it matters. I’m not really looking to get new furniture at this point. Well, maybe some new kitchen chairs. ^_^ Hmmmmmmm.
