When I was a wee sprout, I only had one pair of shoes for any given season. So I wore the same shoes everyday – the same boots everyday in the wintertime, switching to the same sneakers once I got to school, and in the summer I wore my former inside sneakers outside. I would have a pair of fancy shoes for special occasions, like school recitals and whatnot. When you’re a kid, this makes sense. You grow so fast, your shoes have to be replaced pretty much every year anyway, so it’s a bit silly to put together a massive shoe collection when it’ll all have to be done again in about twelve months’ time.
That being said, I am no longer a kid. I still had that old mentality when it came to shoes though – I only need one pair of casual sandals, one pair of fancy sandals, one pair of fancy shoes, one pair of spring/fall/winter shoes, one pair of sneakers. That’s quite a few pairs of shoes already. So as long as I was content with what occupied each slot of my shoe collection, I didn’t have much interest in shoe shopping.
This mentality has shifted in recent weeks, and I blame that massive blowout shoe sale I went to. At the till, there was a sign that said that you could not purchase more than ten pairs of shoes. I thought to myself, Wow, ten pairs of shoes? How many shoes could a person need? But really, when you’ve finished growing, you no longer need to worry about outgrowing a pair of shoes before they fall apart on you. So you don’t need to wear the same shoes everyday to ensure you maximize your use out of them before having to replace them.
I repeat: I don’t need to wear the same pair of shoes everyday.
This means that I don’t need to wait until my current shoes start to wear out before looking for new ones.
So now I’m looking. Determinedly. In fact, now the concept of wearing the same shoes everyday is completely unappealing to me, and I am almost desperate to acquire another pair of cute shoes so I can alternate, and not quickly wear out my existing cute shoes. I had found a pair at the mall yesterday, but the store didn’t have my size. T-T
This could be the beginning of a dangerous era. O.o
