Anyways, once upon a time, I worked a job that required me to be very good at multitasking – it was a reception position, and in particular, I was expected to still be able to answer the phones while eating my lunch.

At some point, I was able to expand this ability so that I could just continue with whatever I was working on while I ate. I could work on papers while eating, read articles while eating, you get the idea.

I have since lost that ability. I find now that if I try, either I get nothing done and end up frustrated, but my hunger is sated, or I end up getting some stuff done but my food goes stone cold and unappetizing.

Today I decided to try eating while making some phone calls to try and track down a shelving unit at a WalMart. The first one I called put me on hold, so I continued munching away. I actually finished my lunch before someone picked up the line again. Did I eat particularly quickly? No. I was on hold for fourteen minutes!

Ugh!
