Anyways, yesterday I was sitting quietly, knitting, enjoying a peaceful uneventful Saturday afternoon.
I felt a little something in the corner of my left eye. Now, during my initial healing, I sort of trained myself to be aware of that feeling you get when there’s a bit of eye goo in the corner of your eye, because I was using those corticosteroid drops that were all opaque and white, which meant I would get collections of white goo in the corners of my eyes, which looked gross, so I wanted to clear those out rather promptly. Well, I felt that the corner of my left eye needed some attention, so I went to clear it out with my finger.
When I pulled my finger away, there was a bit of clear eye goo, and a little translucent blue plastic-looking rod, about three millimetres in length, and I know that it was 0.5 mm in diameter. How do I know it was that diameter? Because it was one of the plugs that was put into my left eye…. Apparently, it had been worked free of my tear duct.
Now before you yell at me that I did something wrong, let me assert that I did nothing wrong! I asked the optometrist if I needed to do anything special to care for these plugs, and he told me that the only thing I needed to do was avoid blowing my nose hard, as that could cause the plugs to be expelled from my tear ducts. So I avoided blowing my nose entirely. My tear duct just expelled the plug on its own….
Unfortunately, I didn’t have the presence of mind to take a picture of the plug before I threw it away. It was neat looking.
So now, come Tuesday morning, I’ll have to call the clinic and let them know that I’ve lost one of my plugs, and see what they want me to do about it…. What a nuisance this is turning into!
