I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t completely free of doubts and nervousness. I know that the procedure is very quick – apparently it only takes about 15 minutes total. However, I also know that they don’t knock you out for this procedure – they apply a local anesthetic to your eyeball. This makes me wonder, though – if you’re conscious while the surgeon is lasering away, does that mean that you can see everything he’s doing? I suppose with the laser only procedure that I’m looking to get, that’s not such a problem – you’d see some flashing lights while the laser is doing its thing, and at one point you’d see the surgeon lifting the corneal flap he’s created, either with his gloved fingertips or with some sort of instrument, I’d imagine. With LASIK, though, the surgeon actually has to cut the cornea with a scalpel. O.o How does the patient not flinch or freak out when they see a sharp object coming at their eye?

Well. I’ll try not to think about it too much, or else I might get a case of the wimpies and not make the call for my appointment. ^_^
