Anyways, it shouldn’t surprise me anymore. It happens every time I come back from a vacation, regardless of what the away humidity level was and the return humidity level is.
The backs of my hands are super super dry.
They haven’t been this dry in a long time – the last time was probably after my last stint away from home. The strangest thing isn’t the fact that they parch out no matter how humid the air at home is compared to how humid the air away was – the drought occurs no matter the difference of direction or magnitude of change. The strangest thing is that usually, I’m pretty diligent about moisturizing my hands right before bed every night – the last thing I do before crawling under the sheets and preparing for take off to slumberland is to slather some lotion on my hands (bring on the jokes ^_^), yet when I’m on vacation I’m usually pretty lax about this because all my usual routines have been thrown for a loop. I don’t take my vitamins – which reminds me, I should get back into that cycle again – I get ready for bed way before I’m actually ready for bed, or it might be so late that I’ll just decide I’m too sleepy to bother with flossing – but I never skip brushing – and I don’t do my nightly fluoride rinse because I don’t trust the bottle to not leak inside my suitcase so it never gets packed. No big surprise then that lotioning the hands before beddy-bye gets omitted. Yet my hands are fine. Then I return home, get back into my routine of nighttime hand care, and they go crazy with dryness.
And no, it’s not that I’m allergic to something in the cream – they feel better once the cream is on, they just dry out again really really quickly. On Sunday night, I used my regular nighttime hand cream, and things seemed okay in the morning. On Monday night, though, my hands were so dry they actually hurt a bit, so I slathered on some heavy duty Bliss body butter that I got as a free sample from Sephora for my birthday last year, and they seemed much better on Tuesday all day, so much so that I went back to the regular strength stuff last night. Today, they’re dry again – not as bad as on Monday, but still pretty dry. I’ll use the super duper stuff tonight and see how it goes.

When i got home today i changed the engine oil & greased the tie rods & ball joints in the front suspension in my sports car. If your super-duper cream doesnt work ill come over with my grease gun and lube your hands back into shape!
Maybe it’s the water. Or chemicals in it that you have to get acclimated to again.
