I watched Kung Fu Panda tonight.

I quite enjoyed it – it was a fun and entertaining little movie. Which, really, is what a movie is supposed to be, isn’t it? A way to escape reality for a couple of hours and immerse yourself in someone else’s story. You don’t need to make decisions, or have opinions, because anything you think is completely irrelevant and won’t make one iota of difference to how this other story unfolds. It’s very freeing. Of course, it would be dangerous for one to live one’s life just watching movie after movie, because the downside of being so removed from the story that it simply exists to provide you with no-strings-attached entertainment is that the characters involved in the story can’t help you if you need it. They won’t cook for you, or go out to obtain food for you, or pay your rent or utilities. No matter how nicely you ask.

Anyway, yes, I enjoyed Kung Fu Panda – the storyline was a wee bit predictable, but following that path was a fun ride. I must admit, I was a bit nervous about Jack Black being the main character, because he tends to be one of those people who are a bit too over the top to be the main focus of a story, but it was all good. The other characters were all very well cast. It was fun. I don’t want to say too much in case I inadvertently spoil the movie for someone else – you should watch this movie. Lots of silly giggly funny moments.

Like when Po’s father is telling Po about how one day the family business – a noodle restaurant – will be passed down to Po, “and you will fulfill your destiny and take over the restaurant just as I took it over from my father, who took it over from his father, who won it from a friend in a game of mah jong.”
