Since MasterCard will not generate a chip card for me until September, and I want it now, I called their toll free customer service number to request that my chip card be sent sooner rather than later. I explained my request to the friendly rep that took my call.
Okey dokey, he says, let me just pull up your account information here.

Alrighty, he says, your current card will continue to work until the new card arrives. Once you’ve activated the new card, the old one won’t work anymore.
Okay. How soon can I expect my new card?
I’m not showing any chip card having been generated for you, so you can go ahead and continue to use your old card until the new one arrives.
But I want a new card now. My current card doesn’t expire till September, and I want to be able to use the chip card when I travel next month.
