Anyways. it’s official – I have a job interview on Monday afternoon. The interview process is scheduled to last 30 minutes.

Perhaps not surprisingly, I am now incredibly nervous about this. I’m not sure how well I handle pressure. Sometimes I manage to pull myself together and give a sparkling performance. Other times I just self-combust and implode, fueled by my own adrenaline, and the result is probably pretty painful to watch. Knowing that the result could potentially be wreckage worthy of the evening news is not very helpful for these jitters… I do tend to get hyper and bounce around a lot when I’m nervous!!!!
Being this nervous is giving me the urge to buy stuff. Lots of stuff….
I already gave in and bought myself a glass pen and some ink – I placed the order after getting back home. ^_^ Also on my wish list are some new clothes – I know fall is coming, and that means that I’ll be pulling out my heavier corduroy pants and warmer shirts and sweaters, which is kind of like getting new clothes – but the problem is that I just got a new Victoria’s Secret catalogue, and I made the mistake of perusing it, which means I carefully and meticulously scoured every single page, and that of course means that I found a number of items that I would love to add to my wardrobe! I want a new lipstick, but I swear I’m going to behave and use up the ones I have rattling around in my drawer. I’m going to need more body wash and more body cream very very soon, and my eye cream is starting to look a bit low. And shoes! I want shoes, and boots!
The urge to buy stuff doesn’t stop at somewhat frivolous, relatively inexpensive items like clothes and makeup. There are some big ticket items dancing near the top of my wishlist too. I want a new laptop. I want a new fridge. I want a new clothes washer, with a matching dryer to boot….
Why the strong desire to buy? Because I’m stressed about this interview and this potential job, and buying things for myself is exciting because I have new stuff, but it’s also calming. I’m giving myself a hard-earned treat – whether or not the hard-earned bit is true is sort of a matter of perspective, probably – and that treat makes me feel all happy and calm and reassured that the world will sort itself out in my favour.
Yes, that would be your cue to chime in here and tell me that it’s okay for me to treat myself. ^_^ Maybe not to a new fridge, but at the very least to the new clothes. All of them!!!
