Anyways, some people are free spirits, able to follow opportunity wherever it may knock. I know someone who decided recently that he hasn’t seen enough of Canada, so he packed some clothes and a mattress into the back of his more-than-a-decade-old car and will drive 4000 km across the country to spend three months or so living on the other side of it. He has not made arrangements for a place to live when he gets to his destination, nor does he have a job waiting for him. I have a strong, strong dislike of moving – don’t like packing, don’t like unpacking, and the whole search for a place to live exercise is discouraging. I really like it when things are where they belong, and it takes me a while to figure out where things should go in a new home, so perhaps not surprisingly I am more than reluctant to go through that whole process repeatedly. This aversion is a large part of what kept me in an apartment that was infested with Pharaoh ants and crawling with largish spiders for two and a half years. The willies I got from the bugs weren’t as powerful as the willies I got from the idea of moving. Not having anywhere to go once you arrive at your destination, or a job that would allow you to earn money so that you could buy food from restaurants since you have no kitchen in which to prepare your meals? I think I felt my blood pressure spike just typing that…. I’m not looking forward to my move!!
