Anyways, there should be a sarcasm font, because the discovery I am about to relate has no joy in it at all.

Yesterday, I posted about my new drugs to banish my persistent cough – an inhaler. She showed me how to use it in the examining room, and I took my first dose right then and there. She told me I only needed it twice a day, so I figured I’d take another puff before bed or something. When I got home, I noticed some rough slightly blotchy redness around my neck and upper chest area. I attributed it to irritated, dry skin, which has been a bit of a problem for me for the past two weeks or so. Around lunchtime, I noticed my upper arms were itching a lot. Again, I figured it was just dry skin, but I pushed up my sleeves and saw that red spots were creeping down into my elbow pits. Weird.

By late afternoon, I was in a bit of a state – my upper arms itched like crazy and the spots had congregated into full out rashes, my thighs and kneepits were now itching and were now decorated with more of the spots – angry little red welts. My chest had broken out in little spots too, and my neck was looking in pretty bad shape.

By bedtime, I had some spots on my forearms, down the backs of my calves, in a patch in the small of my back, stretching in a band across my stomach, and some in the palms of my hands. At this point, I was certain I was having an allergic reaction to something. Since the only new thing introduced to my system was that inhaler, I skipped my bedtime dosage, and took an antihistamine instead (Aerius) to stave off sleeping itchies.

This morning when I woke up, I had more welts on my forearms, more spots on my chest and stomach, my lower back and upper back were both spotty, and I had welts on the backs of both of my hands. And I was itchy. Everywhere.

Back to the doctor I went. Got to see the same doctor as yesterday. She took one look at me and said, “Wow.” She agreed with me that it was an allergic reaction, but she disagreed as to the source, claiming that the inhaler drug simply doesn’t cause reactions like this, and saying that since these “target lesions” are all over my body, this is a sign of something systemic. She also said that since it had been over 24 hours since my first dose of the inhaler, those compounds should be completely clear of me, which made sense to me. Her take on the situation? I’ve developed an allergy to the antibiotics I’ve been taking – a member of the penicillin family. And even though the horrible outbreak coincides with the start of the inhaler, that makes sense to me too, because I stopped with the inhaler, and yet everything continued to get worse overnight – and crucially, I didn’t stop with the antibiotics.

So she told me to stop with the antibiotics, and I might as well stop with the inhaler too, just to make sure. She then gave me a prescription for a new drug – a steroid used to treat allergic reactions, so no Olympic competitions for me for a while. ^_^ She gave me five tablets – I’m supposed to take one a day. I’ve taken one today, and so far, I’m still all welty and blotchy and grotesque looking. T-T We’ll see how things progress tomorrow.

In the meantime, I have to be vigilant and on the alert for shortness of breath, fever, or blistering of any of the welts. If any of these symptoms appear, then I have to get myself to a hospital. O.o

Oh yes, and of course, I’m still coughing. >_< I just want to be normal again!
