Anyways, leaving Las Vegas
That was a movie, wasn’t it? Haven’t seen it, don’t know what it’s about if it is (other than, um, leaving Las Vegas), but I feel like it’s a movie.
The start of a vacation is always full of such joy and a carefree sense of freedom, knowing that all of your holiday stretches ahead of you. Towards the tail end, though, comes the sense of impending doom, knowing that soon you will leave the magical realm of the happy holidayer and return to your own Reality. I’ve been working very hard to keep this second feeling from casting a gloom over what’s left of my playtime. The good news is that I’m usually successful in this venture. The bad news is that when playtime is really over, I tend to crash a bit on the hard side, and it therefore takes me some time to return to my Reality.
That being said, leaving Las Vegas is not a terrible idea – I now fully understand the allure of gambling, and how easily one could be addicted. I’ve heard the seductive whispers of Lady Fortune, promising me that if I only play a bit longer, she may deem me worthy and reward me with riches beyond any winnings I’ve seen so far. The blinking lights and tinkling chimes are making her sound more and more trustworthy. My common sense tells me to leave any machine that isn’t lucky for me, and to leave any machine that is lucky for me as soon as I’m ahead, but the authority with which my common sense speaks is dwindling by ever increasing degrees. This is probably Not A Very Good Thing.
Now the question is, do I get out with my miniscule slot winnings, or try my luck at a table game?

When you get home pick up a copy of Leaving Las vegas. Nicolas Cage & Elisabeth Shue both put out a good performance in this film. It is grim,dark & hopeless yet quite intense! This was one of the last true blue roles that Nicolas C took before he sold out to the highest bidder. It even won an Academy Award! If you only like happy go lucky movies you wont like this one. I liked it because it was a different perspective of people who end up in vegas. Not..a pretty sight compared to your happy go lucky vacation!
