Anyways, I sometimes wonder if I watch too much TV.
I don’t think of myself as one of those people who would fall to pieces if they weren’t able to watch their shows. I certainly wouldn’t say I’m dependent on TV. Yet, upon more careful consideration, maybe I am?
I watch TV during meals when I’m home. Never used to growing up, but then my family moved to a home where the eating area was not separated from the TV viewing area by a wall, so we suddenly could watch TV with dinner, and we never looked back. When I moved out, the main room of my first apartment did not allow for separation of TV watching and eating areas, so naturally the two activities came to occur simultaneously – after all, sitting on a couch facing a powered-off TV feels bizarre. In my current place, there’s enough space that I could separate eating from TV watching, but I don’t. I still have the vast majority of my at-home meals on the couch, with the TV on.
I watch TV every evening. Every single evening of the week.
I’ve found recently that if I’m home alone, doing some task that isn’t very mentally demanding, I like to have the TV on as background noise. I’ll put in a DVD of episodes of the Simpsons, press Play All, and just go.
Does that mean I’m TV dependent??

TV’s are the modern replacement of the fireplace. Heck, there’s even a scene in Terminator where kids are watching the TV–with a fire inside. As long as you get done what needs getting done, no worries!
On the other hand, one might argue you could make better use of that spare time. For example, experiments in self-photography. Just think how fun that would be. Nomire need to arrange a photographer.
