The needles I want are about $20 USD a set. The yarn I want is $19 USD a skein, which makes one pair of socks.

I wonder if everyone gets tiny little stabby pangs of guilt when they start pondering what shape their Christmas gift wishlist should take??? I also wonder if it’s fully appropriate to think about Christmas before Halloween even hits??

I did not reset my skill level to Easy and start working my way up - I went hardcore, straight for the Expert skill levels. I figured I’d had plenty of practice with the original Rock Band, and guessed that since I can get through most of those songs on Expert with little to no trouble, I should be able to muddle my way through the brand new songs in Rock Band 2.

To my surprise and delight, I’m doing well! My scores are well in the 90% range, usually 95% or better accuracy. Of course, these are all relatively easy songs - the game is set up in such a way that you gradually increase the level of difficulty of songs available in your tour.

Still, it would seem that I am relatively proficient with a game controller guitar. True, I play the bass part, which is not as complex as the guitar part - fewer chords, though they’re making me do some, and I still get completely baffled by the three-note chords, and no showboating solos to contend with. Plus if I do well I get a better multiplier - I can go as high as a 6x multiplier. Le woot!

Nothing like devoting so much time and energy into developing a skill set that has absolutely no practical application in the real world! Rawk on!!

A few years ago, I burnt some microwave popcorn. I think I blogged about it. I came very very close to having the stuff ignite, and ended up dropping a charred black chunk of scorched popcorn with some glowy embers in it into a toilet to reduce the risk of starting a fire that could destroy the building.

Today, I burnt a second item in the microwave. It was a leftover bit of cheese bread from a pizza place. I put it in for a minute without thinking too much. Towards the tail end of that minute, I started to detect a familiar ominous odour. Too late, I realized what must be happening, and sure enough, when I opened the door, I was greeted with a rather charred looking wedge of cheese bread. I pulled it out, debated trying to eat it for about two seconds, and then put it in the sink and doused it with water, listening to the sizzling sounds it made. I left it in the sink for a few hours, until it had cooled sufficiently that I no longer felt paranoid that it would start a fire in my garbage.

Have I learned my lesson about being more careful with my microwaving?
