I spent a bit of time playing flOw today.

This game came to my attention a couple of years ago, and I tried it out on the web, but I didn’t really get it. I had noticed it became available on the PS3 sort of recently, and so I decided to give it another try when it was a free download. The PS3 version uses the motion sensing abilities of the controllers, so you tilt your controller around to make your wormy go.

The graphics are improved on the PS3 version – the wormies look more interesting, the little things the wormies eat are more varied and more interesting. Many malls have pet stores. While I do not really desire a pet, I have been known to have a quick little walk through mall pet stores – the animals are so cute! Last year, I did a bit of a frantic scramble when the RRSP contribution deadline rolled around. I sat on hold for a very, very long time, and you might remember my frustration upon realizing that my cordless phone’s battery had died – the hold music had been cutting in and out, and I put the line on speaker phone so I could do other things while I waited, and thus didn’t notice when the line just went completely dead. In any event, eventually it was all done, and I breathed a sigh of relief, followed by a solemn promise to myself – I would not go through this again. For the 2009 tax year, I would sort out my contributions early, and get them done early.

How’s that working out, you might ask?

Well.

Today is February 25.

I have yet to make my 2009 year’s contributions.

Everything’s all set up now – I should be able to do it all online, quickly and painlessly, right???

And I thought, Gosh, I should really eat those soon.

And then I realized that they’ve been sitting on the shelf, with the bags open like that, for months. Probably since last summer.

At which point, I took a deep breath, picked up all the sad leftovers bags, and unceremoniously pitched them. I’m not about to eat them after they’ve spent so long stored in non-sealed packaging. Stale chips are gross. They shouldn’t taste like peanuts. Forget it. Chips aren’t too pricey. I can get more.

And then, you know, not eat them.

You know you can comfortably live the rest of your life without earning a single paycheque. Do you keep working anyway? Or do you neener-neener your boss and retreat to a life of leisure, spending your time and energy on whatever catches your fancy?

Today, though, I hunkered down in bed with my nifty new toy, and proceeded to start in on a new book. It was a Janet Evanovich book – Finger Lickin’ Fifteen, the fifteenth in the Stephanie Plum series. I read the second one years and years ago, and was rather charmed by the narrative style and storyline, and proceeded to read them all. By number seven or so, I was starting to find the storylines rather repetitive, and the hijinks that made up the series of events in each one were getting further and further out there. Still, I keep reading them, because the narrative style is still pretty fun.

I got through the whole book before dinner. It wasn’t exactly a long, epic tale, but still. A novel in an afternoon.

That being said, I still get immature urges that I indulge more than I would if I had to explain myself to my mother more regularly. Today, I wanted to have chocolate cake for breakfast. I didn’t – I had leftover pizza instead – but tomorrow, I may not be able to fight the desire anymore.

I see that another stack has been building since then. I have placed one single, solitary order since the catalogue purge. There are at least five catalogues in my home. I say at least five because I can see there are five in the stack on the shelf near where I keep my laptop. I’m guessing there are a few more in other various places.

I wonder if the marketing staff have access to my purchasing history? Do my spending habits have any influence on how much promotional material they send my way? If I were independently wealthy, I might try to test this out. Seeing as how I am not, however, I’ll just sit and wait for the next semi-annual sale to place another order.

Or, if I get weak, I’ll raid the clearance bins. A girl has needs, after all.

I got Rock Band. Played my way through it. Even did the Endless Setlist at the end, I did!

Then I got Rock Band 2. Unfortunately, I need those to open up the final venues in Shanghai. Sigh. Why haven’t I tackled this obstacle with the same perseverance as I did with Flirtin’ with Disaster in Rock Band?

Well. I got The Beatles Rock Band. I’ve finished the story line in that one, meaning I’ve played every song that came on the disc. I’ve even purchased some of the additional songs available in the PlayStation Store, and have developed an appreciation for Beatlemania – granted, I’m forty years late to the party. In what may be Beatle blasphemy, but is par for the course for me, I don’t think I have a favourite.

Having pretty well exhausted the playlist for The Beatles Rock Band, you’d think I’d attack what remains of Rock Band 2 with renewed zeal.

Instead, I got Lego Rock Band.

I haven’t gotten very far in it yet. So far it’s fun, like the others. The graphics are sort of overly cutesy, not in a flowers and puppies sort of way, but in an aimed at five year olds sort of way. I also get the feeling as I’m playing that I’m basically playing a giant Lego commercial – the little trivia bits are more often than not about Lego instead of about the bands providing the music, or gameplay.

Still, I’m enjoying blocking out. Er, I mean, rocking out. More ways to waste time!!
