And for those things that can’t be undone, no matter how you try? Well, there’s no point fixating on them. Just figure out where to go from here. Keep moving forward.

I had been hoping to finish off a massive, dragging-on-longer-than-it-should project by tomorrow. As it turns out, I needed the collaboration of other people on this more than I was expecting, so the thing is not done, and no amount of my effort would have gotten it done by my deadline, since my plan never factored in time for those other people to get their input in. Whoops.

Anyway. I’m disappointed, but I will not cease to exist as of 4:30 PM tomorrow, so I have to figure out what comes next. I have to keep moving forward.

That’s not to say that my plan at this point involves ice cream tomorrow. Laura Secord’s French & Frosted Mint should help me keep moving forward.

Okay guys, here’s more Sunny Leone hardcore! Apparently, when I start out looking for something new, trying to find something that is similar to a product I already know that I like is not a strategy I use. Or maybe it was a flawed memory thing – instead of looking for another oil cleanser, because I had liked Liquid Crystal so much, I went looking for something else, because I had disliked Clean Energy. I have tried several different things in that time period – foaming cleansers, gel cleansers, creamy cleansers, and I thought I’d found something I liked.

Then, when packing for a short trip, I found in my collection a sample of some Shu Uemura cleansing oil, and decided to take that to try it out.

After a few days, I now remember distinctly how much I liked Liquid Crystal – though I’m a bit fuzzy on what was so bad about Clean Energy.

I think, when I get home, I’ll be making a trip to Sephora to see about tracking down a cleansing oil product. And maybe this time, if I don’t like the first one I try, I’ll manage to remember that there are some that I do like, and I should just try another one.

Ever since I moved out of my parents’ place, I’ve been a laptop person. Now, while the integrated touch pad is a useful pointing device when one is in transit, which happens not infrequently in my life, when I’m parked at home I like to have a real mouse. For one thing, if I have some fiddly bit of work to do, attempting to use the touch pad will leave me in a froth of frustration, and my work takes way longer to get through. For another, many of the point-and-click timewaster games I enjoy simply don’t work well on the touch pad – it takes too long to navigate the cursor to your next click.

So I have a wireless mouse. I’ve had it since, oh, 2005? It’s been around these parts, working faithfully, for quite some time. It runs off AA batteries, so whenever those die out, all I have to do is pop in some new ones and we’re good to go again.

Except, for the past week, things seem different. When I click, it doesn’t seem to always register. There have been a couple of incidents where I clicked, and for some reason two clicks registered – both times I was just playing a little timewaster game, so nothing critical happened in the grand scheme of things. Still my mouse’s performance has been somewhat spotty.

I’m wondering if it’s time for me to replace this mouse… I do like new stuff….

There’s just no way I would be lucky enough to win such an extravagant prize. That being said, it was one of those charity raffles, so at the time I told myself that, well, at the very least, I was donating money to a worthy cause.

Now, as I mentioned, even though I knew the odds were so very against me? The moment I dropped my little entry stubs in the box, I pictured myself winning the fantabulous prizes. Even though I hate moving with the burning heat of a thousand suns, I still pictured myself preparing my simple little meals in that gourmet kitchen, I fantasized about the massive ensuite bathroom, I imagined reclining on the comfy couch by the massive windows. I mentally inserted myself into that prize house, and got all cozy in there.

It’s now been just over a month, and I have yet to be contacted as the grand prize winner. I think that now it is safe to say that I did not win the house.

I happened upon my ticket stubs on the countertop today, realized that I needed to kiss all those lofty visions of myself goodbye, and unceremoniously threw them away.

And then consoled myself for my loss – because with all the daydreaming, it now truly felt like a loss, silly as that is – with a couple of my coveted Jelly Belly jelly beans.

Oh, and even though I don’t have an iPhone 4 yet, and probably won’t for a while since they are all sold out, I still went ahead and ordered a protective skin for it when I eventually do get my hands on one. I went to ZAGG and put together one of their custom skins. I’ve got one of their plain transparent ones on my current iPhone, and it’s held up quite well to two years of use – there’s a spot on one side where the adhesive has failed, and there are a couple of smaller pieces that I’ve peeled off because the adhesive was failing, but the main bits are still well stuck on.

Anyhoo, I made a custom skin. What did I do?

I stuck a Pikachu on it. I will have a PikaPhone.

This strikes me as a fantastic idea right now. What worries me is that the reason I think this is so great is because I’m sort of wigging out over work. My concern is that once I am past this work hurdle, the notion of a PikaPhone will make me want to hide from society. Well, hide from public encounters, at any rate.

I’ll still be able to talk and text from my PikaPhone. Unlimited evenings and weekends, y’know?

A while back, I was talking with a colleague at work, and she mentioned that she was having some trouble with her laptop computer. She was more upset about what she called our disposable society. She felt it was wasteful to toss a computer when its life with her had been so short. Thinking she was worried about the machine sitting in a landfill forever, I pointed out that she could take it somewhere to be recycled, or somewhere where they would figure out a way to fix it up and make it useful, though probably not super nice, for someone who needed it but really wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford it. She said, yeah, she knew about those sorts of programs, and that was what she was going to do, but she still didn’t feel right about it. It really bothered her that when something goes wrong with a laptop, often the most cost effective solution is to replace it.

I’m not bothered by this, but then again I have what is likely an unhealthy appreciation for new things. The way I see it, if technology is able to change quickly enough that I notice a difference in performance between a new laptop today and a laptop that was new two years ago, so much the better if the upgrade is affordable. I use my computer every single day – might as well be happy with it!

Or maybe she’d just see me as part of the problem.

Whatever – my toys bring me joy. Totally worth it…

Further sampling might enable me to detect more, but as I said, I’m not fond of the stuff, so why would I subject myself to that?

I encountered a similar sense of fascination and wonder with a jar of skin cream I tried a few years ago. It was fragranced to smell like chocolate chip cookie dough, but not the raw dough – it actually smelled the way cookies smell as they’re baking in the oven. Not the way the cookies smell once they’ve cooled either, there’s a subtle difference, but they captured it and infused the cream with it. While my nose told me very certainly that this was the smell of a baking chocolate chip cookie, I was baffled. What exactly was I smelling that my brain was interpreting as baking?. I was tempted to give it a lick….

Especially since, once you get home again, those things that seemed so elegant and refined suddenly start looking garish and tacky.

For now? I’m going to sleep on it……

Now, Canadians typically flock to Tim Horton’s for their donuts, but I must admit to a fondness for Krispy Kreme donuts – the original plain glazed ones. Their fancy ones are good too, but there is something wonderful about those simple signature donuts that really hits the donut spot. Unfortunately, Krispy Kreme locations are not exactly abundant in this country, so going to fetch some can be quite a trek, and often is ruled out for reasons of practicality. So most of my donut runs are either to Tim Horton’s, which is still good, just not Krispy Kreme, or sometimes I just the local grocery store.

The local grocery store donuts tend to be a bit more hit or miss. Sometimes they’re dry. Sometimes, they’re not sweet enough. Usually I’m left with a sad recognition that these are nowhere near Krispy Kreme donuts.

A few years ago, I was apartment hunting, and I viewed a place that was across the street from a Dunkin’ Donuts. I didn’t rent that apartment, but I wonder how my life would have run differently if I had.

I sort of wonder if my dress size would have changed….
