Apparently, the caterers misjudged the size of the kitchens at the venue, and realized too late that they needed more space in order to prepare the required amount of food, and went back to their own facility to do so. This means that the hors d’oeuvres (samosas and tandoori chicken) were about half an hour late. But that wasn’t the worst of it. The dinner itself - an Indian buffet - was nearly two hours late. We were supposed to eat at 7 PM. I believe the food arrived at 8:45 PM.

Now, I’m a pretty easy going person - I didn’t get upset by the lateness of the food. That being said, I strongly suspect that others did - I saw the bride and groom’s bosses pacing about antsily, looking a bit tense, and the bride’s grandfather was pretty cranky looking. Of course, he’s used to having his dinner at 5 PM, and going to bed at about 9:30 PM, so this delay was really throwing off his rhythm. To his credit, he didn’t yell at anyone, or make a scene, or even get unfriendly. But he did not look impressed.

On the plus side, the wedding cake was good. I was lucky, and got a slice of a chocolate layer - apparently, there was a vanilla layer too that wasn’t as nice. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the icing was actually really good - sometimes you get weird gross icing on bakery cakes, but this one was great, all sweet and buttery. On time, that is.

I woke up.

I loaded last night’s dishes into the dishwasher.

I created an expense list for other members of my traveling party from my vacation, and sorted out who owes who what.

I transferred the clothes from the washer to the dryer.

I went to the bank.

I went to Home Outfitters and bought some plastic clothes and coat hangers.

I came home and put the hangers in their respective closets.

I went to the grocery store.

I came home and put the groceries away.

I started the dishwasher.

This brings us to 3 PM. 3 PM?!

I ate some leftover pizza for lunch.

So much for clawing my way out of the work backlog today.

Anyways, it shouldn’t surprise me anymore. It happens every time I come back from a vacation, regardless of what the away humidity level was and the return humidity level is.

Then I return home, get back into my routine of nighttime hand care, and they go crazy with dryness.

And no, it’s not that I’m allergic to something in the cream - they feel better once the cream is on, they just dry out again really really quickly. On Sunday night, I used my regular nighttime hand cream, and things seemed okay in the morning. On Monday night, though, my hands were so dry they actually hurt a bit, so I slathered on some heavy duty Bliss body butter that I got as a free sample from Sephora for my birthday last year, and they seemed much better on Tuesday all day, so much so that I went back to the regular strength stuff last night. Today, they’re dry again - not as bad as on Monday, but still pretty dry. I’ll use the super duper stuff tonight and see how it goes.

My paternal grandmother is a packrat extraordinaire. Everything gets saved for future usage, no matter how useless the item might seem to the casual observer. Empty cracker boxes? Admittedly, my grandmother is a bit of an extreme case - before leaving her home for an assisted care living facility, she had complete sets of dinnerware and flatware and a wardrobe’s worth of clothing, all unused, brand new in their packaging, because she didn’t see a need to replace the old stuff yet, but didn’t want to give up the new stuff, so she stashed it.

My father, while lamenting my grandmother’s, erm, skills, also shows signs of having some serious packrat skills. My mother has to do a fair bit of talking to convince him to throw things away, be they clothes, utensils, whatever.

And me? I think I may have some packrat tendencies too. After years of ensuring that I always have contact lens solution and extra lenses on hand, now that I no longer require either, I still can’t bring myself to throw away what I have. Even if my eyes regress and I end up needing corrective lenses again, it won’t be the same prescription as what I had before I got my eyes fixed. Plus, with the reshaping of the cornea, chances are excellent that I wouldn’t be able to wear the same contacts that I wore before. So, really, my stash of spare lenses is really, really useless.

And yet, I’m not discarding them… unlike the cases!!!
