Anyways, not too long ago, I received a delivery notice from Canada Post indicating that an item was waiting for me to pick it up at my local post office. I wasn’t expecting anything - hadn’t ordered anything online in a while, and so I was rather excited to see what mystery giftie had arrived for me. Imagine my disappointment when it was a request that I resubmit some old tax information.

This weighed heavily on my mind today when I arrived home to discover an unexpected delivery attempt notice from Purolator. Again, I wasn’t expecting anything - I’ve been behaving somewhat with respect to online shopping lately, so I wasn’t sure what this was, but I was prepared for another less than pleasant surprise.

Imagine my delight when I went to collect my package and they brought out a fairly long thin but light cardboard box. As soon as I saw it, I knew what it was, and it was a big happy boost to my day.

It was my replacement Rockband guitar!

Nearly three months ago, I kindly let some younger kids who were visiting play Rockband. Now, these kids are at that point where they’re entering adolescence, so they’re old enough to know that they should try to be careful and gentle with other people’s stuff, but they’re still young enough that they tend to get excited and carried away and forget themselves. A month later, the whammy bar on the guitar started making a strange clicking sound when I whammied. Not too long after that, there was a sudden snap, and then the little bounce back sensation was gone, so if I wanted to whammy a sustained note, I had to actually move the whammy bar back and forth, instead of just applying slight pressure in one direction only and letting it bounce back on its own.

Once the whammy bar went, I thought that there might be a chance that the controller was still under some sort of extended warranty, so I checked, and it was, so I submitted a request for a replacement. I received a confirmation email that my request had been submitted, but nothing indicating that someone had reviewed it and actually done something with it, so I figured I was just in a queue waiting for my turn.

Now I have it! I unpacked it, assembled it, and have played with it a little, you know, just to make sure it works. It does, though deploying energy isn’t as responsive as I’ve become accustomed to, but it seems to be improving with play. Either I’m learning the idiosyncrasies of this controller, or there’s a weird adaptive phase where the guitar learns the sorts of motions used in energy deployment. I’m not too worried about it - it took some time for me to get the hang of it with the first guitar too.

In any event, the old guitar will be packed up and shipped off sometime soon… How can I work now that I have a new one??
