August starts tomorrow. August. The final month of summer.
So seeing as how the summer days are limited, I’m gearing up for a week away from it all – going to escape out West, I am. ^_^ I’ve been told I’m headed for a little slice of paradise on the lake, where I will spend a week doing some light hiking, a little bit of boating, and a lot of fiction reading. Unfortunately, blogging does not make the cut – largely due to lack of Internet access out there. So don’t be alarmed when I seem to vanish off the face of the blogosphere – I’ll be back, really I will! I’m going to have some canned picture posts and descriptions up, but nothing much else!
In preparation for the journey, I spent an hour and a half this morning cleaning out the inside of my car. I must admit, it has been neglected for the past three years or so. My father says that cars ought to be thoroughly cleaned once a year – whether he actually does clean his cars annually is unknown, but I suspect that he does – and mine has not seen a vacuum out of its box since the summer of 2003. So first, I had to collect all the random bits of paper that had accumulated on the floors and in the trunk. Yuck. Then I hauled out the Dyson (yay!) and vacuumed out the trunk. Then I removed the floor mat from the back, vacuumed the floor, then vacuumed the mat and replaced it. Then the same drill for the front mats, though I couldn’t get into all the little nooks and crannies because the crevice tool is shaped so that I needed to go in on an angle that I couldn’t achieve because of the door shape. Botheration. Oh, well, it’s still much better than before I did it. After the vacuuming was done, I dusted the dashboard and the space by the rear windshield with a couple of Swiffer cloths, and then used Windex wipes to clean the insides of all the windows.
So the inside of the car looks quite tidy now. Tomorrow, I’ll get the outside cleaned up – it’s going in for an oil change, so I’ll take it for a spin through the car wash after that. Then, on Wednesday, I’ll apply a coat of wax.
Hm. This is sure ramping up to be a lot of effort for a week of camping.
