Warning: Angry Driver Rant
On my daily driving route, there is a spot where two lanes simultaneously join up with a major freeway. The way they have it set up is, one lane yields to the other, which continues on as an additional lane on the freeway. This is the way it has been set up for at least seven or eight years.
Today, as usual, I was scooting along in the lane that continues. I saw a car approaching in the lane that yields. I thought to myself, that car is going awfully quickly for yielding. I got ready. Sure enough, the other driver did not yield – in fact, she moved into my lane without even shoulder checking! Had I been going just a bit faster, or had I not been ready with the brake pedal (I didn’t have to brake hard, but I did have to brake), I would have been right beside her, and she would have driven right into me. She seemed completely unaware of my presence – I should have honked the horn, and wanted to about ten seconds too late. As I followed her, I saw that she was talking on the phone (no hands free unit), and at least twice took her other hand off the steering wheel to stretch (not while we were stopped for a light).
Bah. I was glad to see her go. I still wish I had honked at her though.
Okay. Rant over.
But speaking of driving and silly drivers, why do some people believe that they are invisible once they get in their cars? Yesterday I saw a guy picking his nose while waiting in traffic. And that wasn’t the first time. If you can see me singing along to the radio, what makes you think I can’t see you digging for treasure?
*rant off*
