I only have a couple of days’ worth of antibiotics left to take, and yet my stupid cough persists, worsening when I try such silly things as speaking. Given that the congestion in my right ear and sinuses is gone, this cough is unlikely to go away once the antibiotic treatment has run its course. The doctor I saw last week warned me that I might have a persistent cough that would require independent treatment once the actual sickness itself had cleared out. So, obedient girl that I am, I hauled myself back to the walk in clinic today for a follow up.

I didn’t get the same doctor as last time – walk in clinics are sort of like playing the lottery that way – and I got a bit worried when the nurse wrote on my chart that I had been on ‘flu meds’ because I hadn’t been diagnosed with a flu, but figured it’d be alright since (presumably!) the diagnosis and prescribed treatment had all been detailed on that chart by the previous doctor. The new doctor listened to me breathe through her stethoscope, listened to me cough, and determined that she could hear a bit of a wheeze when I breathe, suggesting that my airways are irritated. I was about to tell her that I sort of have a tiny wheeze all the time, owing to some childhood encounters with pneumonia, but then she said that the wheezing cleared when I coughed. She then handed me an inhaler – corticosteroid/bronchodilator powder – to use twice a day. If the coughing clears within a few days, I can stop using the inhaler after a week. If the coughing persists for another week, I have to go back and they’ll send me to a lab for chest x-rays. O.o
*update* I’ve now broken out in a full body rash… Methinks I’m allergic to the inhaler! How sexy these red spots are…..
