Anyways, today was the first checkup….

First thing this morning, I was back at the eye clinic for a follow up checkup on my eyes. I saw a technician first, who checked my visual acuity using the usual ‘read the smallest line of letters that you can’ procedure. The haze from the monitor used to display the letters in the darkened room introduced a new level of complexity to the task. Still, he told me that my vision was good enough to allow me to drive, legally, without corrective lenses. For the first time in my life. I got a letter to have the adequate lenses condition removed from my driver’s license. He also told me that my left eye was better than my right eye.

Next up, a visit with the in-clinic eye doctor, who shone some lights in my eyes and looked with a scope, reading out technical jibberish that didn’t mean much to me to her assistant. She then told me that my eyes were having a bit of a reaction to the procedure - particularly the right eye. Basically, there’s some swelling going on. She didn’t seem concerned, so I don’t think that means that my eyes are going to just burst out of their sockets. She did, however, give me a stronger corticosteroid solution to drop into my right eye. Instead of being on a relatively free, loosey-goosey drop schedule of four drops spread out over the day’s waking hours, now I have to drop this solution in every two hours while awake over the next two days. To make things complicated, my left eye is staying on the original four drops a day schedule in the meantime. Oh, and I’m still putting in antibiotic drops in both eyes, four times a day. Plus artificial tears whenever I feel the need.

My next follow up check is on Wednesday morning.

Oh, and in case you were curious, my left eye now sees 20/20. My right eye sees 20/30, which explains why last night I figured I probably see 20/30 since my right eye is so dominant that my brain pretty much dismisses all information brought in by Leftie. Rightie definitely rules here. I’m hoping that over the next week or so, Rightie will also be up to 20/20. That being said, I could totally live with my current state of vision - haze and all - for the rest of my life!!! Laser rocks!!!
