Okay – I admit it – I’m a mascara addict. Well, no. Actually, I recently found a mascara I like a whole lot. It happens once in a while – I find one that seems to work well and I swear I’ll never stray again. And then I stray when something new and exciting intrigues me. Guess I’m not that loyal to a product. The draw of newness is just too much!
So I found one I like – but it’s not waterproof. For my normal everyday life, this isn’t a problem… but what about for poolside carousing? On, say, a vacation? So I bought this one I’ve heard of for a while that has been intriguing – Kiss Me mascara. Of course, it’s also from Japan – I’m hoping the ethnic similarities between their test bunnies and me will play to my advantage…!
It’s also not like your usual mascara… Instead of painting your lashes, it’s a kind of plasticky polymer that wraps your lashes up in little plastic tubes. So it’s totally waterproof and smudgeproof. It also doesn’t come off with normal makeup remover – you get some warm water, wet them, and then ‘rub gently’ and the little tubes will ‘slide off’ (eewwwww). Pretty nifty sounding, right? (If you ignore the gross aspect)
Anyways, so far I’ve just worn the stuff. It’s a bit spiky feeling, and my lashes do feel coated in something. I’m not sure I care for that feeling. It was neat, though, in the elevator with the overhead lights I could see this little halo-ey haze hovering over the tops of my eyes – it was light reflecting off my lashes! I’ve never seen that with traditional mascara!
I hope it comes off without pulling my eyelashes out! ^_^

Kaori — I TOTALLY hear you on the whole eyelash thing — Medical adhesive dries pretty instantly, and since I have absolutely no patience, this is perfect for me when applying eyelashes. It is, however, unforgiving, and does not come off easily, often leaving little globules the next morning, which is stunning for tooling down to Colonial Pizza and all, but may not be the look you’re trying for going to the office in the morning. Just a thought. Also, if you’re opting for those massive eyelashes there is a trick to putting them on. Curve the outer corners (the end of the lash toward your ear) up a little bit away from the eye, rather than along the eyelash line itself. This curve makes the eyelashes turn up and outward, otherwise they kinda fall into your eyes and look like eye claws. Not that that’s a bad look either. DO NOT USE SPIRIT GUM with fake eyelashes. That shit burns your eyes like a mofo. Not a good idea.
Just some advice.
I remember we used to snort spirit gum on Friday nights with a big bottle of Mogen David while cruising up and down Northampton Street looking for cheap whores dressed like Asian schoolgirls. One night in December, it snowed so much, Seidel’s Shoe Store looked like a giant white marshmallow, so we took our spirit gum and Mad Dog on foot, and kept warm by lighting the homeless men on fire.
