Well guys, a lot of you are here because you love asians.. so, some asians I will post!
Okay. Yesterday was Halloween. Kidlets made the rounds looking for candy. O_o
This also means that yesterday was the last day of October, which means that today is the first day of November (wait.. I’m getting to it..), which means that real winter is just a hop, skip, and jump away. Now, no matter how much you may like winter, excluding Jim, I’ll bet you don’t like the mess it creates at your doorway. You know, the puddles where you leave your shoes, because no matter how much you stamp your feet before entering, some snow got stuck somewhere and got tracked in. And the dirty residue left behind from those puddles after the water has evaporated away, which is usually a little while after you’ve stepped in it and gotten your socks all cold and wet.
The solution? An entryway mat. ^_^
But wait! Don’t go running out to the store to buy any run of the mill doormat, which I’ve discovered can be quite pricey! Do this instead: go to Reno Depot (Like home depot). Go to their Flooring department. Somewhere, they will (probably – I actually don’t know if this is true of all Reno Depot stores) have odds and ends of carpet that they have cut into nice regular shapes and bound the edges of to give them a finished look. They will sell these at roughly $7 each, depending on the shape and size. So for just under $16 with tax, I procured for myself two entryway mats – one oval shaped one, one rectangular one. Both in nice-looking carpet.
The best part? After the winter’s through, when a person might normally be facing the rigours of cleaning that entryway mat from the winter’s usage so that it will look nice come the next winter, I can simply throw mine away, guilt free. ^_^
In my mind, this is $16 well spent. No more puddles and frequent moppings of entry points, and if need be, I can dispose of the mats after the season. If they’re still in good shape, I’ll keep them – and the next season’s use will be a bonus!
That being said, with all the salt here in Montreal, it wouldn’t surprise me if they’re dead within a month!

Hmmm…. i used to work at a reno depot and didn;t even know they did that… awesome idea. You’re just FULL of useful info, you are…. Although i strongly suggest getting the rubbermaid doormat to put under your the makeshift carpet-doormat where you put the boots/shoes after you take them off… cause after just a few uses, the montreal juice will go right through and still mingle with the hardwoodfloor…. 0_o
On the rug issue..i agree with tossing them out! I dont want those dirty things in my washing machine! Over here i can buy rugs made in china for $2.50 & when they get loaded with beach sand and dirt i toss em! Even better, over here we can buy CHILDREN from China for $2.50, and we just have them clean our snowy and muddy boots as soon as we enter the house. Or sometimes we ask them to lie down by the front door, and then we wipe our dirty shoes on their tattered clothing. I tell ya, K-Snatch, NOTHING gets out caked-on mud and dog doo like a 5-year old girl’s well-worn kimono. And best of all, because they’re so darned cheap, when they wear out, or their cries become deafening, we just throw ‘em out and get new ones. Although there’s a fat guy down the street who goes by the name “Tiger Joe”, and every so often he’ll offer us $5.00 for one – only the boys though. I don’t ask; he doesn’t tell.
